It is very important for our students for feel that they are part of a community. Throughout the school year, each classroom does several community projects. Posters with specific community themes are made and distributed, we participate in “Random Acts of Kindness Days” and are involved with food and clothing drives for local food banks.
Meaningful Work is a school-based jobs program designed to increase student responsibility and give them an increased sense of purpose and belonging in the school environment.
Throughout this program, students learn how to fill out applications and interview for jobs. They receive insight on how to deal with fellow employees, supervisors and difficult situations. They “clock in and out”, receive pay in school points, receive performance evaluations, as well as credit for the class. Meaningful Work is a program based on real life experiences and an excellent tool for our students with transition goals.
